How to Obtain Apostille Certificate Attestation in New Delhi?

Apostille is a general procedure of legalizing certificates belonging to those countries which are signatories to the Hague convention of 1961. Apostille Certificates from one country are accepted by other member countries’   authorities.

Apostille stamp is a square shaped sticker affixed on the back of the certificates by the concerned authorities. For Apostille in India, the MEA is the sole authority for apostille.  Apostille certificates include educational, non-educational and commercial certificates. For educational certificates apostille in Delhi, first the certificates are authenticated by State HRD in Delhi, followed by MEA apostille. Secondly, for non-educational certificate apostille, the certificates are attested by the Home Department and later MEA apostille. Finally, for commercial certificate apostille, the documents are attested by the Chamber of Commerce and then MEA apostille process.

Birth certificate apostille

Birth Certificate apostille is done by the MEA, only after the State Home Department attestation. In some cases, the Sub Division Magistrate or the GAD (General Administrative Department) can also carry out the attestation. If the birth certificate is in some other Indian language other than English, an English translated Birth Certificate is also required. In India, the Birth certificate apostille was started on 14th July, 2005.

Marriage Certificate Apostille

Marriage Certificate apostille is undertaken by the MEA after the State Home Department attestation. In specific circumstances, the SDM or the GAD can also undertake the attestation. If the marriage certificate is in some Indian language like Hindi, Punjabi other than English, an English translated Birth Certificate is also required. In India, the Marriage certificate apostille was started on 14th July, 2005.

Degree certificate apostille

Degree Certificate apostille is carried out by the MEA after the State HRD authentication. In specific circumstances, the GAD can also carry out the attestation. For Kerala, NORKA is the designated authority for attestation.   If the person is going to HCC (Hague Convention Country), he / she should carry the Apostilled Degree Certificate translated into the language of that specific country. For degree certificates other than English, an English translated degree Certificate is also required. In India, the Degree certificate apostille was started on 14th July, 2005.
